Substance Abuse Education and Testing Personnel Involvement

A. The National Center for Drug Free Sport, Inc. (Herein referred to as Drug Free Sport™): Serves as the primary drug screening collection agency. Furthermore, Drug Free Sport may present educational opportunities to the McPherson College Athletic Department population at various times during the year.

B. Corporate Health Services: Services provided at McPherson Hospital, McPherson. Serves as the secondary drug screening collection agency, in accordance to Drug Free Sport, procedures and protocols. Furthermore, Corporate Health Services may present educational opportunities to the McPherson College Athletic Department population at various times during the year.

C. Central Kansas Foundation: Serves as the certified drug counseling agency in the event of counseling requirements, per the protocol listed in this policy.

D. Substance Abuse Committee: Responsible for observing and implementing all drug testing policies and procedures set forth in the McPherson College Substance Abuse Program. The Substance Abuse Committee shall consist of:

  1. Head Athletic Trainer (Herein referred to as the Committee Chair)
  2. Assistant Athletic Trainer
  3. Director of Athletics
  4. Dean of Students
  5. Substance Abuse Counselor (if necessary in the opinion of the Committee Chair)
  6. Team Physician (if necessary in the opinion of the Committee Chair)

E. Appeals Committee: The Appeals Committee will, in agreement with the Director of Athletics and the Committee Chair, be available to hear appeals cases from student-athletes. No member of the McPherson College Athletics Department, nor any student, will be placed on the Appeals Committee.  All decisions made the Appeals Committee will be deemed final. The Appeals Committee shall be appointed by the Substance Abuse Committee Chair, and shall consist of 5 members appointed for terms of one year.
