Substance Abuse Education and Testing Parameters

McPherson College drug screens may test for the following drug classes:

  1. Street Drugs (Marijuana, Cocaine, K2)
  2. Anabolic Agents
  3. Stimulants
  4. Diuretics and other Masking Agents
  5. Peptide hormones (such as EPO and hCG)
  6. Anti-estrogens

McPherson College Athletics will follow the testing parameters, with the exception of alcohol testing, listed as part of the NCAA Banned Substance List. Further information regarding tested substances can be viewed at the following link:

2012-13 NCAA Banned Drugs

As noted by the NCAA, the student-athlete shall be held accountable for all drugs within the banned drug class regardless whether or not the specific drug has been banned by name.

Note:  Any substance chemically related to these classes is also banned.

The NCAA Executive Committee reserves the right to update and/or modify the NCAA Banned Substance List at any time. As stated above, student-athletes are encouraged to consult the athletic training staff or the Resource Exchange Center (REC) provided by Drug Free Sport with the latest information regarding banned substances. Though McPherson College Substance Abuse Testing is separate and distinct from the NCAA drug-testing program, and therefore is not included in required testing commitments by the NCAA, McPherson College bans the substances listed on the NCAA Banned Substance List.
