Substance Abuse Education and Testing Failure to Report

"Refusing to participate” shall include but not necessarily be limited to “failure to appear” at a designated drug testing date, time and location. The “drop dead” time after which a student-athlete shall be considered officially late for their announced testing time, shall be 30 minutes. Arriving at the correct location, but later than the designated “drop dead” date and time, shall constitute a refusal to participate. Appeals to the “drop dead” time will be considered. Each case will be handled on an individual basis by the Director of Athletics and/or Committee Chair.

If a student-athlete is going to be late to their appointed testing time, he or she MUST call the Committee Chair immediately. The student-athlete must give an approximate time of arrival. The Committee Chair will determine a new “drop dead’ time (if applicable).

If a student-athlete refuses to participate in a drug test after completing the Drug Testing Notification Form, the student-athlete’s eligibility to participate in all intercollegiate athletics and team-related activities will be canceled for the balance of the academic year. Furthermore, the Substance Abuse Committee reserves the right to test such student-athlete at any point upon return to activity for the duration on their McPherson College athletics tenure, under the guidelines set forth under Reasonable Suspicion testing.

If a student-athlete is unable to attend the drug testing session due to a justifiable reason of absence from McPherson College on the scheduled date and time, (as determined solely by the Director of Athletics and Committee Chair):
  • The student-athlete will be required, within a reasonable amount of time from the original test time and date, to obtain a drug test performed at McPherson Hospital. McPherson Hospital will collect the sample, and ship it to Drug Free Sport for analysis. <OR>
  • If justifiably unable to complete section “a” above, there will be a randomly drawn list of alternates. However, the college reserves the right to test the original student-athlete at its discretion. Expenses incurred will be at the responsibility of the student-athlete.
