The 2018 season will be Alex Butterfield’s second on staff with McPherson.
Butterfield has been the head coach at Haven High School since 2015 and will continue in that capacity in 2017. Butterfield has helped grow the Haven program, nearly tripling the roster size and adding a junior varsity program. In his second season, the team set the school's single-season record for victories. He has had one player go on to play at the collegiate level and developed nine All-League players during his tenure.
In the fall of 2016, Butterfield was part of a partnership that acquired the Haven (formerly Wichita) Warhawks of the Sunflower Collegiate League, a summer wood bat league based in the Wichita area. In addition to being part owner, Butterfield will serve as the on-field manager beginning with the 2017 season. In 2013 and 2014, Butterfield was an assistant coach for the Park City Rangers of the Walter Johnson League. While with Park City, he worked with hitters, catchers, and outfielders in addition to serving as first base coach. In 2014, Park City qualified for and competed in the National Baseball Congress World Series.
During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Butterfield was an assistant coach for Wichita Southeast High School. While there, Butterfield was the hitting and catcher’s coach.
Butterfield currently resides in Colwich, Kansas, with his wife and two daughters.
