Mitchell Whitehead

Mitchell Whitehead is entering his second season as the Head Coach of the McPherson College Women’s Bowling team.
 
The Bulldogs look to break out in year two, building on the success of the inaugural 2024-2025 season where the Bulldogs brought home their first tournament win in January 2025, finished 3rd in the KCAC tournament, finished ranked #26 in the final NAIA RPI, and #44 in the final United States Bowling Congress (USBC) power rankings.  
 
Coaching Highlights
Prior to coming to MC, Whitehead served as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Bowling Coach at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, OK from 2020-2024. During his time at OC, Whitehead helped lead the Men’s team to multiple top 15 ranked seasons, including a trip to the Intercollegiate Team Championships in 2022. Whitehead helped lead two separate players, Joshua Imhoff and CJ Petrin, to appearances at the Intercollegiate Singles Championship in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Imhoff would go on to be named IBMA Runner-Up Bowler of the Year and NCBCA All-American in 2021 and 2022. Petrin had a standout career including 2x IBMA Runner-Up Bowler of the Year in 2023 & 2024 and 4x NCBCA All-American in 2022-2025. Petrin was also a member of Junior Team USA in 2023 and a current member of Team USA in 2025 as well as the reigning 2025 U.S. Amateur Champion.
 
Whitehead also helped lead the OC Women to one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2022-2023, finishing ranked #6 nationally in the USBC Power Rankings. That season, freshman Kaylee Back, was named NCBCA National Rookie of the Year, NCBCA 1st Team All-American, and IBMA Runner-up Bowler of the Year. 
 
Prior to OC, Whitehead served as a Graduate Assistant Coach at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX from 2017-2020.
 
Playing Highlights
Whitehead competed at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX from 2013-2017 where he had a career average of 185 pins per game over 141 games. Individually, Whitehead racked up 9 top 25 finishes, 3 top 10 finishes, and 2 All Tournament Team Awards throughout his career.
