Dustin Wheeler

Dustin Wheeler enters his third season as the McPherson head men's and women's tennis coach in 2018-19. Entering the campaign, his school and career record with the men's program is 26-8 and 19-6 with the women's squad.

Under Wheeler's direction, the Bulldogs are 17-0 in men's action in KCAC play and 16-1 on the women's side.

The Bulldog men's team is 51-6 in KCAC matches in the last eight seasons, having not lost more than one conference match in a season during that time.

The McPherson women's squad is 38-1 in KCAC matches in the last five seasons.

In 2017-18, Wheeler guided the men's team to a 15-4 overall mark, including 9-0 in league play, and rode a 13-match win streak through the national tournament. McPherson finished No. 19 in the NAIA Top 25. The Bulldogs earned a second-straight KCAC championship, fourth-straight KCAC Tournament title and berth in the National Championship second round. For his efforts, Wheeler was named the league's Coach of the Year and coached the league's MVP. Two players were named to the All-KCAC first team, while one was voted to the second team and two named honorable mention. One player was named a NAIA Central Region Senior Player of the Year by the ITA and NAIA second team All-American.

Off the court, a Bulldog earned the KCAC Scholar Athlete of the Year honor. Three players were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Two Bulldogs were voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large College Division District 3 team, selected by CoSIDA. One player was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Men's At-Large College Division first team, while another Bulldog earned a second-team honor.

In 2017-18, Wheeler guided the women's program to a 10-3 overall record, including an 8-1 mark in league play, and rode an eight-match win streak during the season. The Bulldogs earned at least a share of its fifth-straight KCAC title and fifth-straight appearance in the KCAC Tournament championship round, having won four of the last five crowns. Two players were named to the All-KCAC first team, while one was voted to the second team.

Off the court, a Bulldog earned the KCAC Sportsmanship Award. One player was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. Two Bulldogs were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's At-Large College Division District 3 team, selected by CoSIDA. One player was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's At-Large College Division first team.

Before joining McPherson, Wheeler spent a number of years working in fitness clubs in Central Kansas. He has spent four years as tennis director at Club 1 Fitness in Great Bend.

Prior to that, Wheeler spent a year as director of tennis for the 10-and-under age group at Jayhawk Tennis Center and nearly six years affiliated with Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita (tennis professional, 2006-2010) and Salina (tennis director, 2010-2011).

Wheeler also holds an associate's degree from Salina Area Technical College.

A McPherson native, Wheeler attended McPherson High School. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Ellinwood.
