Box Score North Newton, Kan. – On a damp cool night, McPherson was able generate enough offense to propel themselves past Bethel College, 1-0, Wednesday evening at Thresher Stadium.

“The conditions were a struggle to deal with for both teams tonight,” said McPherson head coach Robert Talley. “Even without some key members due to sickness, the team showed true determination to get the job done tonight.”

Breana Jones scored the matches only goal off a failed attempt to clear a corner kick in the 52nd minute. The goal proved to be enough to give the Bulldogs their second KCAC win, improving their record to 2-1-1 in conference play. The Bethel loss drops their record to 3-7-2 overall and 1-2-1 in KCAC play.

The two sides remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes with each team taking four shots.

McPherson took advantage of a Thresher mistake for what turned out to be the game winning goal at the 52:24 mark, when Breana Jones tucked a ball into the back of the net after the Thresher’s were unable to clear a McPherson corner kick.

The goal is Jones’ team leading fourth of the season and put her in a tie for the team lead in points with Whitney Williams with eight.

After the goal, McPherson continued their strong defense as goalkeeper Andrea Swanson collected one save in the shutout victory. The shutout is Swanson’s third on the season and first since Sept. 26.

McPherson will close the week with a Saturday match against Friends University. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. in Wichita.
