Box Score McPherson, Kan. – After a narrow victory their last time out, McPherson found its offense early Wednesday, scoring twice in the first half en route to a 3-0 win over Tabor College at McPherson Stadium. Alex Toro scored in the 24th minute with Brent Mulford and Armando Rodriguez adding the insurance goals, as the Bulldogs extended their win streak to a season high five games.
Defensively the Bulldogs held Tabor to eight shots, and goalkeeper Blake Jett was forced to make one save to record his fifth shutout of the season.
With the Bulldogs controlling the offensive tempo early, Toro found the back of the net in the 24th minute when he received a ball from Michael Phillips and bent it around the keeper into the bottom corner of the net. The goal is Toro’s first of the season, and his first game-winning goal as a Bulldog.
Mulford followed just over 11 minutes later with his seventh goal at 36:40. He netted a header from Armando Rodriguez, who recorded his team leading fourth assist.
With play becoming more physical in the second half, Rodriguez found an opening to score his team leading eight goal in nine games at the 79:59 mark. Rodriguez received a long through pass from Phillips, catching the keeper off his line and buried it in the back of the net.
Phillips two assists are his first two of the season.
Rodriguez leads the Bulldogs with 20 points on eight goals and four assists, while Mulford is second with 16 points on seven goals and two assists.
As a team McPherson took 19 shots, including five on goal and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Rodriguez finished with one of his six shots on goal.
McPherson is back at home at 8:00 p.m. Saturday when they take on Kansas Wesleyan University.
