Box Score McPherson, Kan. – Three McPherson goals in the first 20 minutes propel the Bulldogs women’s soccer team past the Bethany College Swedes, 3-0, Saturday night at McPherson Stadium. The win puts the Bulldogs in a tie with Kansas Wesleyan for second place in the KCAC. The Coyotes have a makeup match on Monday that will decide who receives the No. 2 seed in the KCAC postseason tournament.
The win improves the Bulldogs to 9-4-3 overall and 6-1-2 in KCAC play, while the Swedes drop to 6-11-1 overall and1-8 in conference action.
McPherson dominated possession, outshooting the Swedes 22-6, including 10 shots on frame. Senior Whitney Williams led the Bulldogs with six shots, including three on frame and one goal. Junior Haley Cook also had a productive night hammering five shots, respectively.
Senior Whitney Williams put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the fifth minute, netting her team high third game winning goal of the season, 1-0. Cook dribbled past a defender down the right flank and passed to the feet of Williams inside the six yard box. Williams easily beat the diving Swede goalkeeper to give McPherson the early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs struck again just five minutes later as Cook took a ball around 40 yards out and dribbled 20 yards past two defenders before placing the ball in the lower left corner.
After continuing their dominant play, McPherson added the third and final goal at the 20:11 mark, when junior Alyssa Baldi netted her first goal of the season. The junior blasted a header off a McPherson corner kick that went just over the goalkeepers hands and into the back of the net.
The Bulldogs will have to wait on the result of the Kansas Wesleyan makeup match that will be played on Monday to see when McPherson will play next.
