Sterling, Kan. – The Bulldogs finished strong after dropping a 30-32 second set to hand Sterling College a 3-1 defeat Thursday evening at Warrior Gymnasium.
McPherson (15-11, 7-6 KCAC) took the opening set 25-15, but Sterling (9-18, 5-9 KCAC) battled back to even the score with a hard-fought 32-30 victory in the second frame. However, despite the tough loss, the Bulldogs rallied to win the next two 25-20 and 25-23 to collect the win.
Junior Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) has a big match for the Bulldogs as she hammered home a career-high 19 kills and posted a .432 hitting percentage to go along two solo blocks and six block assists. Hiebert currently ranks 25th nationally with a .359 hitting percentage on the season. Sophomore Callie McCaffrey (Vona, Colo.) helped out with seven kills and five digs, while junior Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) chipped in 36 assists and nine digs. Junior libero Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) added 22 digs in the effort.
In the first set, McPherson recorded 10 kills and three errors on 18 total attacks to register a match-best .389 team hitting percentage. MC’s hit percentage would break the .300 mark again in the third frame. The Bulldogs tallied 13 total team blocks in the match.
McPherson returns to action Saturday when they play host to Southwestern College. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
