McPherson, Kan. – Senior Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.) made the most of his final home game in a McPherson College uniform, as the Topeka, Kan., native recorded his first career hat trick to propel the Bulldogs to a 5-0 victory over Southwestern College on Wednesday evening.

The win improves McPherson to 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-0 in conference play, while Southwestern falls to 5-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in KCAC action.

Mulford’s three goals marked the sixth multiple-scoring game of his career and his ninth, 10th and 11th goals of the season. He now leads the team with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists.

Junior Jared Kientz (Derby, Kan.) opened the scoring for McPherson in the fifth minute with a far post blast from approximately 20 yards out to give MC the 1-0 advantage.

Mulford tacked on his first two goals in the evening in the ninth and 41st minutes to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at halftime. Mulford’s first goal came following an assist from sophomore Geverton Ost (Porto Algre, Brazil). After receiving the pass, he split the ball between a pair of Southwestern defenders towards the near post and past the diving goalkeeper. The second was netted after a failed punch fell to his feet.

McPherson continued its offensive pressure immediately in the second half with Mulford’s third and final goal in the 59th minute. It was again off an assist from Ost.

Freshman Ramsey Khalidi (Augusta, Kan.) would tack on a final point in the 70th minute to give MC the 5-0 win. Khalidi’s goal is the first of his collegiate career.

Junior goalkeeper Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) improved to 8-7-1 on the season. The Fort Worth, Texas native recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs outshot Southwestern, 26-9, including an 11-to-7 shots on goal advantage. Southwestern held a slight, 6-5, advantage in corner kicks.

McPherson wraps up the KCAC regular season this Saturday with a trip to No. 10 Kansas Wesleyan University. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at Salina Central Stadium.
