McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s basketball team dropped a 58-40 decision to Peru State College on Friday evening in the Bulldogs first of two games as part of the McPherson College Classic.
With the loss, McPherson falls to 2-6 on the year, while the Bobcats improve to 4-1.
The Bobcats controlled things from the start and went into the half with a 28-19 lead. Peru never looked back from this point on, in a game that saw no lead changes in 40 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Kristen Ozbun (Rose Hill, Kan.) with 12 on 4-of-13 shooting from the field. Ozbun was the lone MC double digit scorer. Whitney Slater (Otis, Kan.) and Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) each added six in the effort. Frey led the team with eight rebounds.
For Peru, Courtney Ward had 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Bobcats.
McPherson returns to action on Saturday evening when they wrap up the McPherson Classic with a game against Southwestern Christian University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
