McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s tennis team fell just short Thursday afternoon at the Wall Park tennis courts to Central Christian College, 5-4. The Bulldogs are now 0-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the match by winning one of three doubles points. Central Christians No. 1 doubles team defeated Kelsey Buffo and Ashley Andrews of McPherson, 8-4, while the Lady Tigers No. 2 team posted the identical score against Shaylin King and Madalen Jackle. McPherson’s No. 3 doubles team of Mallory Griggs and Alyssa Baldi grabbed McPherson’s lone doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Graves and Bartel.
In singles action, the No. 3 singles match between Jackle and Gillilan was the highlight of the day. Jackle won the first set, 7-6, but dropped the second, 4-6, before defeating Gillilan 11-9 in the tiebreaker.
McPherson dropped its No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 matches. McPherson’s Griggs won her No. 5 singles match, 6-1, 6-2 and Baldi defeated Graves, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 24 against Newman University, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in McPherson.
