Ottawa, Kan. – McPherson College’s bats were a little cold on Friday afternoon as the Bulldogs were swept in a softball doubleheader by Ottawa University at Alumni Field in Ottawa, Kan.
The Lady Braves (19-7, 11-1 KCAC) blanked MC in the opener, 8-0 and then won game two, 11-3. McPherson (6-14-1, 1-9 KCAC) managed just 11 hits, while the Lady Braves posted 26 in the two games.
McPherson continues KCAC regular season play with a double header against Southwestern College on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
Game 1 – Ottawa 8, McPherson 0 (6 innings)
Ottawa opened the game with a three run first inning and never looked back, as the Lady Braves defeated the McPherson College softball team, 8-0, in six innings.
Offensively, McPherson ended the game with just three hits. Freshman Kelsey Dutton, freshman Kayla Larkin and junior Kelsey Gray tallied the Bulldog hits, all of which were singles.
Ottawa broke the game open in the bottom of the first with a three-run inning. The Lady Braves added another run in the fourth before putting another three-run inning on the scoreboard.
MC’s Kelsey Dutton took the loss in 5.2 innings of work. Dutton allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits, while striking out three.
Game 2 – Ottawa 11, McPherson 3 (6 innings)
With the game tied at three in the fifth, Ottawa posted eight unanswered runs, including a five-run sixth to defeat the McPherson College softball team, 11-3 in six innings.
For the second game in a row Ottawa opened the scoring with a run in the first. McPherson came back to take the lead in the top of the third, 2-1, but surrendered two in the bottom half of the frame to find themselves down, 3-2 after three.
The Bulldogs would add another in the fifth, but it would not be enough as the Lady Brave offense exploded for eight unanswered runs to institute the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Offensively for McPherson, senior Kristen Ozbun, sophomore Katie Logan and sophomore Andrea Falk each produced two hits. Ozbun finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Logan and Falk ended the afternoon 2-for-3, respectively. Sophomore Sadie Green drove in two RBI.
In the circle, Logan took the loss. She pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits, while striking out two and walking two.
