Winfield, Kan. – For the second time in a row, fourth this season, the McPherson College men’s tennis team won all nine matches en route to a 9-0 defeat of Southwestern College Monday afternoon in Winfield, Kan. The win improves the Bulldogs to 5-3 and 3-2 in KCAC action, while extending the team’s win streak to two.

McPherson wasted no time setting the tone for the day, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 advantage. Southwestern made it interesting at the No. 2 doubles position, but could not overcome the pairing of McPherson’s Vyacheslav Bukatin and Jordan Rothrock. Bukatin and Rothrock downed the pairing of Jeff Smith and DJ Wilson, 8-6.

The Bulldogs used that momentum to quickly establish themselves in singles, snapping up each match in straight sets. Bukatin improved on his unbeaten KCAC record with a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Builder’s Jacob Tafuya. Sophomore Kyle Toland, who had previously been playing at the No. 5 or 6 spot, stepped up to win an important match at No. 3. Toland defeated Jeff Smith, 7-5, 6-4, in the closest of the men’s singles competitions.

The Bulldogs continue their final week of KCAC play this Thursday, April 22, when they play host to Kansas Wesleyan University. First serve is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the McPherson High School Tennis Center.
