North Newton, Kan. – Junior midfielder Jared Kientz’s goal in the 51
st minute proved to be enough, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team defeated Bethel College, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at Thresher Stadium.
The victory gives MC an 8-4-0 overall record and 3-1-0 mark in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Bethel goes to 5-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference action.
McPherson jumped on the Threshers early, as Bethel hurt themselves with an own goal in the 28
th minute to propel MC to the early 1-0 lead. However, Bethel tied the score in the 41
st minute when Cameron Wood found the back of the net.
The Bulldogs wasted no time recovering the advantage in the second half on Kientz’s third goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Heriberto Garcia was credited with an assists on the play.
On the night, McPherson held a 19-10 advantage in shots and 10-4 lead in shots on goal. Additionally, the Bulldogs held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Blake Jett made three saves in 90 minutes en route to the win.
The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they travel to Friends University. Kickoff between McPherson and Friends is scheduled for 8 p.m. (CST).
