Bulldogs Cruise to 4-0 win against Sterling

McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College men’s soccer team scored three second half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout victory against Sterling College Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium.
 
The victory improves the Bulldogs to 9-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, while the Warriors fall to 2-12-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.
 
The Bulldogs controlled possession the entire match with 22 shots, including seven on goal.
 
McPherson opened the scoring in the 17th minute as Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) played a ball through the Warrior defense and onto the streaking feet of Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.), who took one touch before slotting the ball past the lunging goalkeeper.
 
The Bulldogs maintained the pressure the remainder of the half with 12 shots, but failed to add to their lead until the 47th minute when Walsh struck again, but this time for his sixth goal of the season to give MC a 2-0 advantage. Ramsey Khalidi (Augusta, Kan.) was credited with an assist on the play.
 
The scoring continued in the 61st minute when a Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) cross set up an Andrew Rosales (Duncanville, Texas) volley that beat a defender and the Sterling keeper. Rosales added a second goal approximately seven minutes later to give MC a 4-0 advantage. The two scores are the first of Rosales’ career.
 
Goalkeeper Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) earned his 16th career clean sheet with three saves in 90 minutes. Jett is now two shutouts shy of tying the all-time record of 18.
 
Midfielder Cuyler Prichard led the Warriors with three shots, while forward Victor Sanchez added two.
 
McPherson returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 22 when the Bulldogs host Bethany College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (CST).
