MC Looks to Bounce Back Against Tabor

McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team looks to bounce back from their Tuesday night loss to Friends University on Thursday, as the Bulldogs host Tabor College at 7 p.m. (CST). The match will air live via the KCAC Broadcast Network with a link available at Macbulldogs.com.
 
McPherson enters the matchup with an 8-14 overall record, including a 5-7 mark in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play following the 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) loss to Friends University. The Bulldogs struggled offensively, hitting only .067 as a team with 30 kills on 104 attacks and 23 errors. Despite the loss, senior Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) displayed a solid performance with nine kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Defensively, the 6-2 middle-hitter added three block assists and one dig.
 
Tabor (13-9, 9-3 KCAC) enters Thursday night six wins in their last seven matches, including sweeps of Southwestern College, Bethany College and the University of Saint Mary. Additionally, the Blue Jays claimed the first against McPherson, 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17), on Sept. 21.   
 
After Tabor, the Bulldogs are off until Monday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Bethany College. McPherson enters the match in search of the season sweep, as MC defeated the Swedes 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) earlier this season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Noting Tabor   
  • The Blue Jays are 13-9 on the year and have won six of their last seven matches, heading into their matchup with the Bulldogs.
  • TC’s lone loss during the stretch came at Baker University (Kan.), 3-0, on Oct. 8.
  • In their last match, a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23) victory at Sterling College, senior middle blocker Tina Frick posted her fourth 20 kills performance with 21 kills on 29 attempts.
  • Frick leads the conference in hitting percentage (.342) and kills per set (3.77). She set a season-high with 31 kills against Sterling on Sept. 15 and has 16 double-digit kill performances on the season.
  • In addition to Frick, junior outside hitter Jessie Vogts has 225 kills for the Blue Jays, while senior middle blocker Cortney Janzen has 169, respectively.
  • Defensively, senior setter/defensive specialist Hollie Tabor has 301 digs for TC with 3.7 digs per set.
  • At the net, Frick leads the squad with 68 total blocks. Junior middle blocker Jessica Wollenberg is second with 57.
  • Tabor ranks 26th nationally in digs per set (17.51), while setter Hollister Wolf is 23rd in assists per game (10.06).
  • The Blue Jays are coached by Amy Ratzlaff, who is in her 13th season at Tabor.
