McPherson, Kan. –
Kansas Wesleyan scored three second period goals, and held on over the final minutes to defeat the McPherson College women’s soccer team, 3-2, in the two teams Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium.

With the loss, McPherson drops 9-8-1 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play, while Kansas Wesleyan improves to 15-1-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the KCAC. The Bulldogs will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament after finishing 0.5 games behind Ottawa University, who is No. 2.

In the first half, the Bulldogs struck first, as senior Stachea Perea (Colorado Springs, Colo.) flicked a ball up into the wind that floated over the diving Coyote goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Following the goal, McPherson packed into a defensive formation and rode the 1-0 lead into the half.

McPherson remained in this defensive formation at the beginning of the second period. KWU, however, broke through in the 53rd minute on Katie Janes free kick. The Coyotes took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes later when KWU scored on another set piece.

In the 74th minute, Monique Orocio of the Coyotes scored what turned out to be the game winner unassisted, giving KWU a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs bounced back four minutes later on freshman Geneva Gray's (Littleton, Colo.) 11th goal of the season, but it would prove not enough.

Overall, Kansas Wesleyan outshot McPherson, 17-6, and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

McPherson returns to the pitch next week in the KCAC Tournament. Official dates and start times will be announced as soon as possible.
