McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs avenged their season opening loss to the Indians, as the McPherson College women’s basketball team picked up its third consecutive victory with a 74-61 win against Haskell Indian Nations University Saturday night at the McPherson Sport Center. The contest concluded the McPherson Classic for the two teams.
With the victory, McPherson improved to 4-4 on the young season, while the Indians fall to 3-7 overall.
Overall, McPherson finished the contest shooting 40.0 percent (24-of-60) from the floor and 75.9 percent (22-of-29) from the foul line, while the Bulldogs stifling defense held the Indians to just 26.9 percent (18-of-67) shooting and forced 16 turnovers.
Individually,
Brittany Pittas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) paced four Bulldogs in double-digits with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting and a 6-for-8 effort from the foul line, while
Taylor Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.) scored 12 points.
Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) matched Puttergill’s scoring en route to her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Frey also added a season-high five blocks.
Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) rounded out the Bulldog top scorers with 10 points, respectively.
For Haskell, Kayla David led the way with 23 points, while Nataska Rouse scored 12.
Haskell opened the game with the hot hand, jumping out to a 7-0 lead before
Madison Chambers (Wellsville, Kan.) connected on a jumper to make it 7-2 Haskell at the 18:08 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs took what proved to be their first and final lead of the night on a
Krushanda Harrold (Houston, Texas) turnaround jumper in the lane, 10-9, approximately four minutes later. Following Harrold’s basket, the Bulldogs never looked back, stretching their advantage to as much as 16 en route to the 13-point victory.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
