Ottawa, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team saw its 2011 season come to a close in the semifinal round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championshiop on Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss to Ottawa University at Peoples Bank Field in Ottawa, Kan.
Ottawa controlled a majority of possession, outshooting the Bulldogs 17-5, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. The Braves claimed a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the match as Kelsey Hanna scored off an assist from Amanda Just. Despite McPherson’s efforts, Ottawa put the match to rest with a Jasmine Gandy goal in the 88
th minute.
Overall, junior midfielder
Rachael Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led MC with two shots, including one on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) recorded five saves in the opening 45 minutes, while junior goalkeeper
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) played the second half. Whitwell tallied one save in the effort.
With the loss, the Bulldogs close the season with a 10-9-1 overall record, while the Braves advance to the finals and improve to 9-7-3 overall.
