Chanute, Kan. –
Despite scoring 16 runs over two games, the McPherson College baseball team suffered a pair of losses, falling 12-11 in game one and 21-5 in game two on the road at Ottawa University Tuesday afternoon.

With the losses, the Bulldogs are 0-6 overall and 0-2 in KCAC play, while the Braves improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league action.

In the first game, McPherson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but a five run second inning by the Braves gave Ottawa a 5-4 lead after just two innings.

Ottawa held MC scoreless over the next two innings, while tallying a pair of their own to lead, 7-4 into the fifth. However, the Bulldogs answered with a seven run on seven hit frame to take back the lead 11-7.

Chris Cesario set the table for the inning with a leadoff single. After being bunted to second by Jared Reed, Cesario scored on a William Waltenburg single to cut the Bulldog’s deficit to two, 7-5. The Bulldogs continued their timely hitting, before Steven Paramore cleared the bases with a two out double. McPherson kept the pressure on before closing the inning with the lead.

However, Ottawa knotted the score in the bottom of the inning with four runs. The Braves added a 12th run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

Ottawa took control early in game two with 15 unanswered runs over the first three innings, including an eight run third on just five hits.

McPherson took advantage of a pair of Ottawa errors en route to a three-run top of the fourth to cut the Brave lead to 15-3. However, Ottawa answered with another big inning, scoring sixth runs in the bottom half to take a 21-3 lead into the fifth.

The Bulldogs tallied two runs in the top of the fifth, but could not cut the deficit below the run rule.

McPherson returns to action on Friday, March 4 when they host Sterling College in their home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Grant Fields in McPherson, Kan.
