McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College baseball team dropped both ends of a Kansas Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday against Tabor College. The Bulldogs were defeated in game one 9-6 before the visiting Blue Jays won, 7-2, in game two.

McPherson slips to 0-18 overall and 0-10 in league play, while Tabor improves to 24-5 on the year and 5-1 in KCAC action.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning of game one. A pair of singles by sophomore first baseman Steven Paramore (Mansfield, Texas) and freshman designated hitter Taylor Werts (Mansfield, Texas) led off the inning. Both runners scored when sophomore catcher William Waltenburg (Avondale, Ariz.) laced a double down the right field line. Freshman pinch runner Tino Stewart (Fort Worth, Texas) stole third before scoring on a freshman second baseman Collin Rusher (Cleveland, Okla.) single to give MC the early advantage.

McPherson added another run in the third when freshman shortstop Daxton Deal (Abilene, Texas) led off with a single. Deal moved up to second on a freshman third baseman Chace Evans (White Oak, Texas) sacrifice before Paramore singled to shallow right, advancing Deal to third with one out. Deal would score on a wild pitch to make it a 4-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs tallied two additional insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-0 lead into the final frame. However, Tabor would take full advantage of two Bulldog errors en route to a nine run on four hit inning en route to the 9-6 win.

Sophomore right-hander Ian Richards (Dallas, Texas) took the loss in relief. Starting freshman pitcher Dalton Slavens (Glencoe, Okla.) threw 6.1 innings, while scattering four hits and allowing three runs in the no decision. He also struck out five in the effort.

Paramore and Werts each ended the game with two hits, while Waltenburg tallied a team-high two RBI.

McPherson fell behind 2-0 early in game two, but bounced back to tied the score with a pair in the bottom of the third. Junior outfielder Brad Stanley (Coffeyville, Kan.) opened the inning with a one out single follow by a Stewart single to give the Bulldogs runners at first and third with one out. Deal and Evans took full advantage of the opportunity with back-to-back singles to score Stanley and Stewart.

Tabor took back the lead with a three-run fourth before adding two more in the seventh.

Werts was nicked for three earned runs on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts over six innings in the loss. Evans led the Bulldog offense with two hits and two RBI.

McPherson returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when they travel to Kansas Wesleyan University. First pitch against the Coyotes is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Salina, Kan.
