Wichita, Kan. –
The McPherson College softball team finished Saturday at the Friends University tournament with a 2-1 record after losing their opening game against Benedictine College, 5-2, before knocking off Northwestern Oklahoma State University, 3-2 and Graceland University, 9-5.

With the results, McPherson improved to 8-8 on the season.

Against Benedictine, the Bulldogs fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings. BC would add another run in the fifth, before McPherson tallied two in the sixth on Katie Logan’s first home run of the season. However, it would not be enough of a spark as the Ravens held MC scoreless the rest of the way to earn the 5-2 victory.

Junior right-hander Andrea Falk was tabbed with the loss after pitching four innings, while allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits. Junior Katie Logan pitched two innings of scoreless relief in the loss.

Senior Jamie Gilbert led the MC offense with a 2-for-2 effort from the dish, while Logan recorded both of the Bulldogs RBIs. Gilbert added two stolen bases.

In game two, neither side lit up the scoreboard until NWOSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. McPherson cut the deficit to one, 2-1, following a Falk single into right that scored Payton Toepfer from third.

The Bulldogs completed the come from behind victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Gilbert and Logan set the table for the inning with back-to-back singles to open the frame. A Falk ground out advanced the runners to second and third with no outs. Two batters later, junior Taylor Medler shot a triple down the right field line to score both runners and give MC the victory.

McPherson rode that momentum into game three, as the Bulldogs tallied a four run fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. MC added another two in the fifth and sixth to earn the 9-5 victory against Graceland.

Gilbert concluded a successful day at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort against the Yellow Jackets. McPherson ended the game with nine runs on seven hits.

Sophomore Kelsey Dutton pitched five innings to earn the victory.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they play host to MidAmerica Nazarene University at 5:00 p.m.
