McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College baseball team lost both of a non-conference doubleheader against cross-town rival Central Christian College Tuesday evening at the Grant Sports Complex. The Bulldogs dropped game one 5-1 before falling in extra innings, 8-7, in the nightcap.

With the results, McPherson falls to 0-30 on the season.

In the first game, Central lit the scoreboard with four runs in the bottom of the first and one in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scored one of their own in the sixth on a Steven Paramore ground-rule double that scored Dorian Shelton. Shelton had reached early on a walk. It would turn out to be MC’s lone run of the game as Central pitcher Brett Frost shutdown the Bulldogs the rest of the way.

McPherson had only four hits in the loss.

Roles reversed in game two, as McPherson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on RBI singles from Ian Richards, Brandon Hicks, Brad Stanley and Dustin Potts.

The Tigers answered back with two runs in the second, but McPherson added one in the third to make it a 5-2 Bulldog advantage.

However, three runs in the fifth by Central tied the score 5-5 and would send the game into extra innings.

The Tigers bats got hot in the top of the eight, as Central scored three runs on three hits, including a two RBI double by first baseman Sam Carr. McPherson seized back the momentum in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs to cut the lead to one, 8-7, but a bases loaded, two-out, line drive found the glove of the Tiger third baseman to end the game.

Stanley led the team with a 2-for-4 effort from the plate, including two runs scored and an RBI. Bulldog starter Taylor Werts pitched well in the no decision. He threw five innings, allowing five runs, while striking out nine.

McPherson returns to the field on Saturday when they travel to Bethany College. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
