Wichita, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team dropped a 9-7 and 15-3 decision at Friends University Saturday afternoon to close out the road portion of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season.
With the losses, McPherson goes to 2-34 overall and 2-24 in KCAC action, while the Falcons improve to 15-32-1 overall and 9-17 in the league.
Friends took control of the game early with a run in the first followed by three in the third to build a 4-2 advantage. McPherson’s two runs came in the top of the second. The Falcons put the game to rest in the bottom of the fifth with four runs. The Bulldogs made it interesting by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth, but failed to overcome the Friends lead.
Freshman second baseman Chace Evans (White Oak, Texas) paced the Bulldog offense with a 2-for-3 effort from the plate, including two RBIs and his fourth home run of the season.
Much like game one, Friends jumped out to an early lead in game two with a three-run first and one-run second before blowing the game wide open with a seven run third. McPherson made some noise in the top of the fourth with two runs, but never got the offense going.
The Bulldogs tallied only three hits in five innings.
McPherson wraps up its season tomorrow when they complete the series against Friends University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Grant Sports Complex.
