About the Opponent (As of 04/05/11)
University of Saint Mary
University of Saint Mary enters the week three-games above the Bulldogs with a 2-10 KCAC mark, while owning a 7-24 overall record. The Spires avoided a sweep at the hands of No. 24 Tabor College with a 4-3 win in game four. The Blue Jays defeated USM, 7-4, 12-2 and 7-1, in the previous three games.
USM dropped six of its first seven before rattling off a pair of wins against Baker University and the University of Sioux Falls. However, the Spires struggles would continue including a season-high nine game losing streak.
As a squad, USM ranks at the bottom of the KCAC with a 0.243 team batting average. Despite the team’s lack of offense, Devin Hupp leads USM with a 0.369 batting average and 0.443 on base percentage. In addition, he paces the team with six doubles on the season. Murphy Lucas owns a team-best 12 RBIs.
On the mound, Evan Faulker has produced a team-best 3.93 earned run average, which ranks amongst the top 10 in the KCAC. He has 16 strikeouts on the year and opponents are hitting 0.271. Stephen Maurin leads the squad with 28 strikeouts in 42.2 innings. He owns a 2-5 record in 11 appearances and opponents are hitting 0.308 against him.
