McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College baseball team saw its 2011 season come to an end Sunday, as the Bulldogs dropped a pair against Friends University. The Bulldogs led through six innings before losing a heart breaker, 13-8, in game one before falling 11-0 in game two.

With the losses, McPherson finishes the season 2-36 overall and 2-26 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Falcons improve to 17-32-1 overall and 11-17 in league action.

Despite falling behind early in game one, McPherson battled to take the lead, 5-4, when freshman shortstop Daxton Deal (Abilene, Texas) looped a single into shallow centerfield to score freshman outfielder Sam Duke (Burkburnett, Texas) from third.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after freshman Tino Stewart (Fort Worth, Texas) opened the inning with a triple, before scoring on a freshman Dorian Shelton (Kansas City, Mo.) single, 6-4. However, the wheels fell off for McPherson in the top of the seventh, as the Falcons scored nine runs on five hits to take a 13-6 lead.

McPherson recovered to score two in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to threaten the Friends lead.

Four Bulldogs recorded a multi-hit game, including Shelton, who ended game one 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and one run scored.

Freshman starting pitcher Taylor Werts (Mansfield, Texas) struck out four in 6.1 innings of work, but failed to receive a decision.

In game two, Friends lit the scoreboard first with four runs in the top of the first, before scoring seven in the third to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore first baseman Steven Paramore (Mansfield, Texas) and freshman third baseman Matt Dixon (Coffeyville, Kan.) recorded MC’s lone hits of the day.

Freshman Casey McConnell (Hutchinson, Kan.) took the loss.
