McPherson, Kan. –
Forward Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) led four Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points, as the McPherson College women’s basketball team extended its win streak to two games with a win over York College, 67-47, Monday night at the McPherson Sport Center.

With the victory, McPherson improves to 8-6 overall, while the Panthers fall to 3-11.

Frey finished the contest 8-for-12 from the floor en route to her team-high 16 points, while adding six rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals in the effort. In addition to Frey, guard Brittany Pittas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including two of McPherson’s four 3-pointers, while guard Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) added 11 points and forward Taylor Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.) chipped in 10 points, respectively.

McPherson seized control of a scrappy first half around the six-minute mark when back to back Frey layups sparked a 17-4 Bulldog run that gave MC a 35-22 lead at the break. Prior to the run, each team had their opportunities, as the lead changed three times and there were six ties in the period.

Despite going just 1-for-9 from beyond the arc in the half, McPherson shot a respectable 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from the floor, while Coach Rolf’s pressure defense forced the Panthers into 20 first half turnovers.

The Bulldogs continued that momentum into the second half, extending their advantage out to as many as 27, 58-31, following a Porter steal and score with 8:36 remaining in the game. The Panthers would get as close as 64-46, but never seriously challenge the MC advantage.

On the night, McPherson shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the field, but struggled from 3-point range shooting a dismal 25 percent (4-of-16). Additionally, the Bulldogs converted only 50 percent (5-of-10) free throw attempts. On the defensive end, MC recorded 18 steals on 29 Panther turnovers and held York to only 23.9 percent (16-of-67) shooting.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Lincoln with 17 points.

McPherson will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. as they travel to Southwestern College.
