McPherson, Kan. – Concordia University, the top team in the NAIA D-II, is as advertised as they took down the Lady Bulldogs 102-54 in MC’s first game of the Concordia Classic.

CU definitely played like the No. 1 team in the Nation as they took it to a young and inexperienced McPherson squad.  Concordia shot the ball 75 times in their rout, making nearly half with 37 falling into the basket.  MC had a tough time keeping up with the speed and pace of CU but did the best they could, hoisting up 52 shots of their own; the Lady Bulldogs were only able to make 38.5% of their field goals.

McPherson is still having trouble holding on to the ball and not committing unforced errors; they had 29 total turnovers with 11 self-inflicted.  The intense pressure of Concordia didn’t help things as CU stole the ball from Mac 18 times.

Three MC players made it into double-digits in the game and leading the way was senior, and Nebraska native, Tayler Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.) who scored 14 points.  Next on the list was Bailey Brown (Glen Elder, Kan.) who came off the bench to put up 11 on just 2-of-4 from the field; she made the majority of her points from the charity stripe, going 6-of-6.  Brittany Pittas (Chicago, Ill.) followed up her 32 points against Haskell, which put her first in the NAIA in points per game, with 10 against the Lady Bulldogs of Concordia.

CU had seven players reaching the 10+ mark in points in their win including all five starters.

As a team, McPherson struggled from behind the three-point arc, only making 6-of-22, shooting 26 percent.  They also had a rough go from the free throw line, shooting in 8-of-17, dropping their season FT percentage to 56.8%.

The Classic doesn’t get any easier for MC as they now have to turn around and take on the No. 18 Hastings College Broncos who lost to William Penn 49-52 on Friday.  That game will be at 12:00 p.m. (CT)in Seward, Neb.
