Box Score
McPherson, Kan. – Bulldog basketball dropped to 3-1 on Friday after their 87-61 loss to Morningside College.  Prior to tonight MC had won 26-straight contests in the Sport Center.

The game opened up as a back-and-forth fast paced contest with each team battling for control.  MC’s last lead of the game came five minutes into the first period, after that, Morningside put together 10-straight points and kept a cushion of double-digits for the remainder of the half, and eventually the game.

The Mustangs were on fire right from the start and went into the locker room after shooting 56.25 percent from the field and 53.85 (7-of-13) from behind the three-point line.  McPherson only made 2-of-13 from distance and shot 35.71% from the field in the opening half.  If you were to take out MC’s three point shots, the Bulldogs were 8-of-15.

Morningside started the second half 6-of-7 to extend their lead to +30 for the first time in the contest.  The Mustangs would keep that advantage until there were just six minutes left in the contest as the Bulldogs started hitting their shots but it was too late, giving Morningside the 97-61 win.

McPherson improved their shooting percentage in the second period to 44 but they were going up against a Mustang team that shot 53.2% for the game.  MC hit 15-of-20 from the charity stripe, giving them a 75% success rate.

While each team committed double-digit turnovers, Morningside stole 13 of MC’s 22 but the Bulldogs were only able to snatch five of the Mustang’s 16.  After Morningside dominated the boards in the first half, McPherson had a better showing in the second, narrowing the gap to 36-33 in favor of the Mustangs; both squads pulled in 12 off of the offensive glass.

There was only one Bulldog in double figures in their loss, Darius Hill (Kansas City, Kan.) hit four of his six shots and drained 2-of-3 from the free throw stripe for 10 points; he also led the team, along with Devirous Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), in rebounds with six.  The team’s leading scorer for the season Samson Shivers (Houston, Texas), who was averaging 21 per game before tonight, went cold as he only hit 1-of-13 and five free throws for seven points; Shivers was 0-of-8 from deep.  The bench for Mac put up nearly half the team’s points, scoring 30.

It seemed as if the three-ball for Morningside would never miss as the team nailed 13 of their 26 balls from behind the arc.  A 9-of-11 shooting performance by Danny Rudeen led the Mustangs.  Tanner Miller came in second with 15 points on 5-of-12 including hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.  Two Morningside players came in off of the bench and shot only three pointers, hitting 6-of-11.

The Bulldogs get less than 24 hours to linger about their loss on Friday as they will travel to Hays, Kan., to take on the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Saturday the 10th.  The exhibition is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (CT)
