McPherson, Kan. - A double-double by
Jordan Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) along with three other Bulldogs scoring in double digits proved too much for the No. 23 ranked Southwestern as No.5 McPherson pushed pass the Moundbuilders 84-71.
The win brings the Bulldogs overall record to 23-3 and 12-2 in KCAC play, while the Moundbuilders drop to 19-6 overall and 9-6 in conference. The win also keeps McPherson in first place in KCAC rankings, one game ahead of Saint Mary who boasts a 19-4 record and 11-3 in conference.
Chris Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) led the Bulldogs with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while
Aaron Frazier (McPherson, Kan.), J. Crawford, and
Aaron Frazier (McPherson, Kan.) added another 15 each. J. Crawford also pulled down 12 rebounds while
Mike Atwater (Wichita, Kan.) dished six assists for McPherson.
The Bulldogs came out strong from the beginning shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 6-of-12 from the three taking the lead from the very start and never giving it up. Both teams traded baskets early, but the Bulldogs picked up the pace with 13 minutes left in the first half going on a 10-to-2 run in three minutes and pulling to a ten point lead, 26-16. The Bulldogs weren't finished as they would then go on an 11-to-4 run jumping out to their largest lead of the half at 17 after two made free-throws by
Jake Reinhardt (Walton, Kan.). The Moundbuilders would only be able to cut the lead to 15 before half as the Bulldogs went into the break ahead 46-31.
The Moundbuilders would come out aggresive cutting McPherson's lead to nine after a jumper by Ethan Randolph. The Bulldogs would answer with a 10-0 run of their own though ending in a Frazier dunk swinging all the momentum in McPherson Sport Center the Bulldogs way. However, a techincal after the dunk on Frazier would pull a little of momentum back to Southwestern. It wasn't enough though and the closest the Moundbuilders would get to back in the game would be thirteen as the Bulldogs claimed the victory 84-71.
Chris Nelson led the Moundbuilders with 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Randolph added another 14 points. However, Southwestern couldn't find it's stroke behind the 3-point line going 0-for-9 for the game.
The Bulldogs next host Friends University at the McPherson Sport Center with tip-off set for 8:00 pm. The Falcons hold a 12-14 overall record and are 7-7 in KCAC contests.
