McPherson, Kan. – The softball team of McPherson College had their first KCAC games of the season on Saturday and faced the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes; MC lost 0-2 and 2-8 in the double-header.
Game One: McPherson 0 – Kansas Wesleyan 2

The Lady Bulldogs started their conference play on the wrong side of a 0-2 score to Kansas Wesleyan. Despite having more hits (seven) than KWU (three), MC was held to zero runs as they couldn't string any hits together.Brittany Cole (Belton, Mo.) led McPherson with two and five other Bulldogs recorded one.
Allison Love (Tulsa, Okla.) was the starting pitcher for the first game of the day and pitched the complete game giving up two unearned runs and two walks. She tallied no strikeouts, five groundouts and six fly outs in her 27 batters faced.
KWU only had three hit but took advantage of McPherson’s three errors, gaining both their runs off of them. Two of the Coyotes hits were from Hannah Holt, Chelsea Reid had the third.
The complete game victory went to Reid who recorded four strikeouts in her 30 batters faced.
Game Two: McPherson 2 – Kansas Wesleyan 8

In the second game of the day, Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to a two-run lead but McPherson answered by scoring one in the bottom of the first. A Katie Logan (Clay Center, Kan.) solo-homerun tied the game in the bottom of the third at 2-2. They Coyotes, wanting to pull-off the sweep, put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning to seal the deal.
The Lady Bulldogs were only able to achieve four hits in game two, Logan led the team with a pair of hits including her third inning homerun. Ariel McGee (Denver, Colo.) and Kristen Fischer (Nashville, Kan.) were the other two that put the ball into play.
Three pitchers were needed to complete the day for McPherson. Cole started the game and went three and two-thirds innings before being replaced by Kaci Nichols (Wilson, Kan.). Cole recorded one strikeout, three groundouts and one fly out while giving up five runs, only one being earned. Nicholas lasted two and two-thirds, surrendering three earned runs, four walks and four hits. Al. Love was the final pitcher for MC and closed out the game by taking care of the two batters she faced.
Kansas Wesleyan had a hitting explosion in the second game, knocking the ball 12 times. Caitlin Girard led the Coyotes with three hits while four others logged two; Girard also led the team with three RBIs.
Heather Kelly pitched the complete game for KWU, tallying seven strikeouts, four hits and only two earned runs.
McPherson will be back in action on Tuesday, April 4 when they travel to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. The double-header is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. (CT)
