McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team has now won two-straight games, defeating Robert Morris University 14-9 on Monday in a nine inning, error filled game at Light Capital Stadium.
McPherson scored in all but two innings during the 3 hour 35 minute game including four in both the sixth and seventh. The Bulldogs were able to cross home-plate 14 times despite only recording nine hits. Jeremy Moore led MC in hits with three including a double, also charting three RBIs. Jordan Slaton and Trey DeRouen were able to hit the ball out of the park for McPherson’s two homeruns; Slaton hit his with two runners on for his three RBIs.
Casey McConnell was the starting pitcher for McPherson and recorded the win despite giving up all nine runs. He pitched six and two-thirds innings logging six strikeouts, four groundouts and four fly outs. Logan Zike came in relief in the middle of the seventh and closed out the game allowing zero runs and striking out three.
Robert Morris’ bats were working early as they got up to a 7-3 lead by the end of the third inning. Their scoring barrage did not last any longer as they were only able to score in one more inning, two runs in the sixth. Four Eagles had two hits with three others recording one.
RMU went through four pitchers in the loss, with JC Foster tallying the “L.” Ed Vasquez started things off for the Eagles and lasted five innings, surrendering six earned runs on five hits. Foster was his replacement and went one full inning, losing the lead before Jeremy Williamson came in relief. Jake Yukich finished out the game for Robert Morris, going one and a third innings. As a team, the pitching staff recorded nine strikeouts, 10 walks and 185 pitches.
The Bulldogs will return to Light Capital Stadium on Wednesday to play the Dakota State University Trojans at 6 p.m. (CT)
