Winfield, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team set out to play two schools Thursday, April 19. The Bulldogs first traveled to Arkansas City, Kansas to take on Southwestern Christian College of Oklahoma in a make-up match from last week.
The Bulldogs did not give the Eagles many chances as they swept through the competition without dropping a set. The Bulldogs started the match with a 2-0 lead due to Southwestern Christian only having five players instead of six. However, it may not have mattered much as the Bulldogs only surrendered 10 games the whole match.
In the second match of the day for the Bulldog’s men’s tennis team, McPherson made the short trek from Arkansas City to Winfield to take on KCAC foe Southwestern College. The Bulldogs again proved too tough as they closed the match out early and did not give the Builders many chances to score. Southwestern did make it interesting though at number six singles as they took a set from senior Cody Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo.); however, Compton reeled off 11 straight games before giving up just one more and wrapping up the match to preserve the sweep for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldog’s not host #14 ranked Bethany College this Saturday, April 21 at McPherson High School; both teams come into the competition unbeaten in conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (CT)
