McPherson, Kan. – After two home losses and the cancelation of their double-header against Friends University due to weather, the McPherson College baseball season has ended.  They end the year 4-35 overall, 0-26 in the KCAC.

Saturday, Game One: McPherson 4 – Friends 6

Box Score

The opening game on Saturday got exciting in the second inning with Friends scoring three in the top half of the inning and McPherson grabbing two in the bottom half, taking advantage of a Falcon error.  MC jumped out to a 4-3 lead after the fifth but a three-run top of the seventh inning by Friends, ended the game with the Bulldogs losing 4-6.

Four hits and four runs were recorded by McPherson in the first contest; the Bulldogs also drew five walks, putting a total of nine runners on base.  Senior Trey DeRouen led the team with two hits; Leander Green and Jordan Slaton also contributed one hit for MC.

Taylor Werts completed his fifth complete game of the year on Saturday, allowing six earned runs off of nine hits and six walks.  He struck out five and forced nine groundouts in his ninth loss of the season.

Eight Falcons made up the team’s nine hits with Domenick Romero being the lone player with two.  Scott McNally led the team in RBIs with two, both coming from his two-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning.

Friends went through three pitchers in their victory; Taylor Warkins started things off for the Falcons.  He went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, before he was relieved by Matt Elliot.  Elliot allowed one run in his one and two thirds innings pitched.  Steven Chrapkowski came in to close things out for Friends, throwing 10 pitches and forcing two fly outs and one groundout.

Saturday, Game Two: McPherson 5 – Friends 6

Box Score

Friends got out to a strong start in game two, putting up five runs in the first inning.  MC failed to get on the scoreboard until the sixth when they scored four, pulling within one at 4-5.  Friends brought in one more run in the top of the seventh and despite getting the tying run on base, the Bulldogs fell short again, dropping their final game of the season 5-6.

Brad Stanley had two hits to lead McPherson; four other ‘Dogs made up the rest of the team’s six hits, all of which were singles.

It was only fitting that senior Curt Compagnone pitched the last game of McPherson’s season and of his career on Senior Day.  He threw the complete game, his first of the year, allowing six earned runs.  Compagnone pitched one of the better games of his career after he got through the first inning.  He only allowed one earned run off of two hits and four walks in the final six innings of the game.

McNally was the sole Falcon to have two hits in their second win of the day.  Five others put the ball into play for Friends with Zach Ashford grabbing three RBIs to lead the team.

Bryce Jones opened things up for the Friends pitching unit, throwing for five and two thirds innings, allowing four earned runs, five hits and one walk.  He was replaced by Elliot who closed out the sixth inning, setting up Chrapkowski for his second save of the day.  Chrapkowski finished off the Bulldogs, allowing one run in his one inning of play.

Both McPherson and Friends are finished for the season as neither team qualified for the conference tournament.  Next on the docket for select KCAC schools is the KCAC Post-Season Tournament with the first game scheduled for Tuesday, May 1.  The tournament will be completed on May 4th at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Kansas with the winner gaining a trip to the NAIA National Baseball Tournament.
