North Newton, Kan. – In a three-set match, the McPherson volleyball team got its first KCAC victory of the season, defeating Bethel College 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-22). The win brings the Lady Bulldog’s record to 2-9 for the season, 1-1 in the conference.
Using a different starting rotation, MC jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead over the Threshers and rode that cushion all the way to a game one win.
In the second game, it was a back and forth contest with numerous lead changes. Ultimately, an 8-1 run by McPherson gave them the 2-0 advantage.
Both teams stayed close to one another other in the final game of the match with neither team leading by more than five points. MC grabbed the victory which gave them the overall win.
Three Lady Bulldogs made it into double figures scoring; Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) (12.4), Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) (11.0) and Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) (10). Phelan had nine kills, Huppe brought 11 kills to the table and Hoover added seven to go with her three solo blocks.
Setters Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) and Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) put up 31 total assists in the match.
McPherson next heads to Oklahoma City where they will participate in a triangular with Oklahoma City University and Texas Wesleyan University. Their first match will be at 11 a.m. (CT) against OCU on Saturday, September 22.
