MC Football Improves to 2-1; Defeats SWC 40-21

McPherson, Kan. – In Saturday’s Blake Reed Memorial Game, Bulldog football never looked better, taking down the Southwestern College Moundbuilders 40-21.  The win brings MC to 2-1 on the season, undefeated in the KCAC.

After being shutout in the first quarter, McPherson literally ran away with the game the following three quarters.  MC had the ball for over 12 more minutes than the Moundbuilders and took advantage of that by putting up some incredible offensive numbers including 286 yards rushing.  The Bulldogs also tallied 234 yards passing and had a total of 520 offensive yards in the victory.

Terrance Jones (Wichita, Kan.) led the way on the ground for McPherson with 109 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.  10 yards behind him was quarterback Jake Snodgrass (Derby, Kan.) who put up 99 yards on 14 attempts.  Running back Havelock Pomele (San Jose, Calif.) ran for two touchdowns for the second consecutive week and also racked up 57 yards on eight carries.

Snodgrass was 19-of-34 with three touchdowns and one interception in the game, completing eight passes to tight end Paul Rotering (Colorado Springs, Colo.) for 118 yards and two touchdowns.  James Patton (Cunningham, Kan.) recorded four catches for 31 yards and MC’s leading receiver Julius Record (Detroit, Mich.) snatched three passes for 36 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Cole Long (Medicine Lodge, Kan.) and linebacker Micah Roehl (Dighton, Kan.) racked up the most tackles on the team, each totaling 11, three solo and eight assisted; Long logged one sack and two tackles for a loss.  Trea Lott (Sterling, Kan.) and Chris Ellison (Red Oak, Texas) both tallied nine tackles for the contest.

Another home game awaits the McPherson on Saturday the 22nd of September.  The ‘Dogs face the Friends University Falcons at 7 p.m. (CT) for a showdown between two KCAC schools that are receiving National votes.
