Lady Bulldog Volleyball Defeats Southwestern 3-1

McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College volleyball moves to 2-4 in the KCAC, 4-16 overall, after defeating the Lady Moundbuilders 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-15, 25-21) on Thursday.
 
The first game started in back-and-forth fashion with the two teams trading points.  McPherson jumped out to a 12-4 lead following a six-point run.  SWC quickly retaliated with a four-point run of their own, getting within four which was the closest they would come in the opening game.  The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with an eight point advantage at 25-17.
 
Southwestern came out fighting in the second game, getting up by as many as 10 before MC came within five points at 18-23 but could not string together the necessary points needed to win, losing 19-25.
 
After a 10-minute intermission, McPherson jumped to a 13-3 lead in game three and didn’t let off the throttle, allowing only 15 points to be scored by the Lady Moundbuilders.  MC was aided by a few nicely timed runs and went up 2-1 after the 25-15 point win.
 
In the final game of the match, points again were traded by the two squads, making game four a tight battle.  The Lady Bulldogs grabbed the lead at 9-8 and never let SWC get it back.  The Moundbuilders came close at 20-21 but a final 4-1 point run by McPherson ended the game at 25-21, giving MC the overall victory.
 
Three Lady Bulldogs made it into double-digit scoring.  The team was led by Aubrey Hoover with 13.5 points on 13 kills and one assisted block.  Tori Phelan came up with 11 points of her own with nine kills, one solo and two assisted blocks.  10.5 points were added by Sophie Simon who had six kills, one solo and five assisted blocks. 
 
Rachel Phillips led McPherson in assists with 20 while Hannah Hoffman tallied 14.
 
McPherson College volleyball is back at home for their next competitions which will be in a triangular against Ottawa University and Southwestern Christian University on Saturday, September 29.  The first match of the day is set for 11:30 a.m. (CT) and will pit MC against KCAC leading Ottawa.  The two teams will have their JV squads compete after that match which will be followed by Ottawa vs. Southwestern Christian.  The final contest of the day will be the McPherson vs. SWCU match which is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
