Box Score

North Newton, Kan. – One week after a disappointing loss to Friends University, the McPherson College football team took care of business against the Bethel Threshers, winning 61-9.  Wide receiver Julius Record (Detroit, Mich.) had a career night and set McPherson’s school record for receiving yards in a game with 270; he also tied the record for most catches in a game with 15.

The Threshers, a team that is the definition of rebuilding, may have been the first team to score on Saturday, but they followed that up with a 41 minute drought before a field goal gave them their nine total points.  The other 61 points that were scored at Thresher Stadium were put on the visitor’s side of the scoreboard.

McPherson got off to a very slow start, taking 12 minutes to put the ball into the endzone but after that, they never let off the gas for the remainder of the game with a good deal of second teamers getting action.  MC averaged 7.7 yards gained per play compared to Bethel’s 1.5 and put up 565 total yards.

Record was a human highlight reel against BC with his 15 receptions and 270 yards with three touchdowns.  Quarterback Jake Snodgrass (Derby, Kan.) took advantage of Record’s record setting night and had a career game himself with 350 yards passing on 24-of-32 and added 51 yards rushing for 401 total yards; Snodgrass scored five times in the game, four passing and once on the ground.

Backup quarterback Jordan Hoffman (McCordsville, Ind.) came in towards the end of the game and completed each of his three passes for 59 yards and one touchdown.

The running attack of McPherson put up 172 yards with D'Anthony Tabb (Houston, Texas), 44, Terrance Jones (Wichita, Kan.), 42, and Scott Thibodeaux (Tonopah, Nev.), 31, adding to Snodgrass’ 51 yards.

On the other side of the ball, the Bulldog defense held Bethel to 75 total yards of offense for the game.  Lenton Abram (Inglewood, Calif.) and Micah Roehl (Dighton, Kan.) each tallied six total tackles, four solo and two assisted, to lead the squad.  Chris Ellison (Red Oak, Texas) added five tackles including the team’s lone sack which was for a loss of seven yards.  McPherson was able to intercept Bethel twice including one in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter by Trenton Forrester (Salina, Kan.) who returned it to the house for a 26 yard pick-six.  The defense was also able to force and recover two fumbles

Some much needed rest awaits McPherson as their next game isn’t until October 13th when they travel to Ottawa, Kansas to take on the KCAC preseason favorite Braves of Ottawa University.  That game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT)
