McPherson, Kan. – McPherson improved to .500 for the season as they trounced the Bethel volleyball squad 3-0, winning the matches by a combined 31 points. MC is now 11-11 overall and 3-4 against conference opponents.
The opening set was the closest of the three as the Threshers kept things tight most of the way. A late surge of 9-to-3 by McPherson won it for the 'Dogs. Game two was a rout from the get-go as Mac got up 10-1 and never looked back winning 25-11. The final set started close but a couple of massive runs by the Lady Bulldogs completed the sweep 25-12.
Two MC players made double-digits in kills with two more waiting in the wings. Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) and Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) each tabulated 12 for the evening; Huppe had just one error in her 21 attempts. Sophie Simon (McPherson, Kan.) and Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) tabbed nine and eight kills, respectively; Simon was a near perfect 9-of-12 swinging and also logged one solo block and three assisted blocks.
Senior Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) put up big assist numbers again, recording 35 in the three sets. She also had two kills, seven digs and one block assist.
The Bulldogs, who are currently second in the NAIA in digs per set recorded 44 with Jacelle Neill (Lemars, Iowa) and Johnson each tallying a team-high eight.
McPherson is back in action in Ottawa, Kansas on Saturday the 5th as the compete against Ottawa University and Park University on the campus of the Braves; matches are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. (CT)
