McPherson, Kan. – The Lady 'Dogs had one of their top games of the season as they took it to Saint Mary, shutting out the Spires 2-0. Mac is now 3-9-1 for the year and 2-3 in the conference.
The opening half of the KCAC contest was heavily controlled by McPherson as they held an 11-to-1 shot ratio over USM; unfortunately for the 'Dogs, they were unable to find the back of the net, heading into halftime with a 0-0 tie.
Shortly into the second 45 got underway, MC was able to put one past the keeper as
Haley Anderson (Highland Village, Texas) scored her first goal of the season in the 49
th minute.
Following the goal by Mac, Saint Mary stepped up their game but the defense of the Bulldogs continued to repel USM. On a free-kick, McPherson extended their lead as
Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) bent one into the upper-90 with 23 minutes remaining.
A total of 21 shots were taken by the Bulldogs in their victory with eight coming on target. Navarro led the team with six attempts, two on frame.
Rebekah Gallegos-Romero (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Amy Stockton (Manhattan, Kan.) each tallied three shots with one on goal apiece.
Keeper
Caitlyn Blagrave (Rio Rancho, N.M.) recorded the shutout while making three saves in the 90 minute contest.
McPherson has a two-game home stand for next week as they host the Blue Jays of Tabor College on October 23
rd and Sterling College on October 26
th; Wednesday's competition is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT) under the lights of McPherson Stadium.
