McPherson, Kan. – The Lady Bulldog volleyball team improved to 18-16 on Saturday as they took out Bethe College 3-1 in North Newton. The victory guarantees McPherson that they will finish no worse than .500 for the regular season as they have a pair of games left.
The opening set was led by the 'Dogs from the third point on; BC was able to stay within a handful for the game but couldn't overcome a slow start giving Mac a 25-19 win. The second set was the exact opposite as Bethel took the early lead and held on for a 25-22 victory, evening the match. It was an even first few points in the third game but an 11-3 surge by McPherson put the Bulldogs ahead 17-10; they held off the Lady Threshers for a 25-23 triumph. BC came out strong in the fourth set, jumping in front 12-5 but Mac pulled ahead after a 14-6 run and then maintained the narrow edge for a 25-23 win.
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) and
Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) came to play on Saturday as they two recorded 17 and 16 kills, respectively; each had their kills on 45 attempts. Huppe also had two solo blocks and two assisted ones to lead the team in both categories.
Also having a great game was
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) as she tallied 44 assists and also had 20 digs, one solo block and one assisted.
Leading the squad in digs was freshman
Emily Warner (Wichita, Kan.) who posted 28.
Mac has two games left in the regular season of 2013, both are at home. The Lady 'Dogs take on Ottawa University on Friday, November 8
th at 7:00 p.m. (CT) and the University of Saint Mary on Saturday with the match starting at noon.
