Box Score 2 Manhattan, Kan. – With two blowout victories against the Manhattan Christian Crusaders, McPherson baseball is on the rise; they’ve now won 13 of their last 16 and are 17-23 for the season.
Game 1 – at Manhattan Christian College – W 9-0
In the opening game of the competition, MC got out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning, jumping all over a miscue by the Crusaders. The ‘Dogs scored three in both the third and the fourth and then put two more on the scoreboard in the fifth to go ahead 9-0. Pitcher
Willie Lopez (Round Rock, Texas) finished off his complete game shutout, giving Mac the win.
McPherson totaled seven hits and drew seven walks against MCC.
Jose Nossa (Valencia, Venezuela) and
Zach Wilson (Miliken, Colo.) each had two of the squads positive knocks of the ball; both also drew one walk. Three other Mac players logged one hit.
Taylor Werts (Mansfield, Texas) had a team-high two RBI in the victory.
Ben Rankin led Manhattan Christian in hits with two; there were two other Crusaders who posted a hit.
Lopez went the complete seven innings, surrendering four hits and five walks in the 28 batters he faced.
Game 2 – at Manhattan Christian College – W 16-8
The second contest started much closer as the two teams each scored two runs in the first inning. MCC continued their scoring and jumped ahead 5-2 after the second inning; the Crusaders stayed ahead until a 6-run inning by Mac put the Bulldogs ahead 9-6. It was all MC from then on and for good measure, McPherson scored seven in the final two innings of their 16-8 triumph.
The Bulldogs exploded for 15 hits in game two; Werts had a team-high four and scored each time he made it on base. Wilson totaled three and was followed by Nossa and
Brendan Miller (Taber, Alberta, Canada) with two; Miller tallied three RBI to tie him with
Andrew Pina (Wichita, Kan.) to lead the team.
MCC upped their hit total to nine in the loss; Trey Shelton and James Floyd each posted two for the Crusaders.
Izak Wherry (Derby, Kan.) started from the mound for MC and threw for two innings before being relieved by
Colter Streck (Woodland Park, Colo.) Wherry gave up five hits and five earned runs in his time on the field. Streck pitched for one and two-thirds innings, picking up the win for Bulldog baseball.
Brant Rhoades (Burlington, Colo) finished out the fourth and then was replaced by Werts who closed out the game.
A home contest is scheduled for McPherson on April 18
th; the Bulldogs will be taking on the Friends University Falcons in the KCAC matchup starting at 5:00 p.m. (CT)
