McPherson, Kan. – It was a matter of a couple innings that pushed Lady Bulldog softball to their two losses on Saturday as Friends University took it to Mac 11-0 and 11-2.  McPherson is now 4-13 for the season and 0-4 against conference opponents.

Game 1 – vs. Friends University – L 11-0

The first of the doubleheader started with three-straight scoreless, three and out, innings as neither team was able to get any traction early.  Friends changed that with a two-run top of the fourth, scoring courtesy of a homerun.

MC’s first three up in the bottom of the inning were putout putting the Falcons back behind the plate.  Another two-run shot by Friends put them ahead 4-0.  The Lady ‘Dogs again went three and out, struggling to put bat on ball.

The Falcons put the game to rest in the top of the sixth as they scored seven forcing the run-rule to go into effect after McPherson failed to put one on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Amanda (Grace) Baxter (Pueblo, Colo.) was the Bulldog that earned a hit to end the perfect game of Friends.

12 total hits were recorded by FU with four Falcons grabbing two.  Cheyanne Stewart had a team-high four RBI on her two knocks of the ball.

Allison Love (Tulsa, Okla.) nearly pitched a complete game, going five and two-thirds innings before being pulled; she tallied five strikeouts while allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits and three hit batters.  Kaila Atkinson (Magnolia, Texas) recorded the last out for Mac but not before giving up one hit and two runs.

Game 2 – vs. Friends University – L 11-2

The second competition of the day started much better for MC after they scored one in the opening inning; Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) scored at the end of a two-out rally by the Bulldogs.  A scoreless second inning was followed by a run by the Lady Falcons to tie things up after three.

Friends posted another run in the fourth and then exploded in the fifth, scoring six runs.  After giving up one hit in the bottom of the inning, FU came back and sent another runner home in the sixth.  Mac, needing a run to prevent the run-rule, got it on one swing by Ashley Love (Tulsa, Okla.) as she sent a solo homerun over center.

The Lady Falcons scored two in the seventh then held McPherson to take the second game 11-2.

MC totaled six hits in their second loss of the day; both Kaiser and As. Love recorded two while Kaci Nichols (Wilson, Kan.) and McKenna Deckard (Hutchinson, Kan.) each grabbed one.

An incredible 16 bats of the ball were logged by Friends with Kelli Nicholson leading the way with her 4-of-5 day from the plate.  Stewart and Courtney Borland each hit on 3-of-4 to be second on the team and were followed by Michelle Teo who had two.  Four other Falcons recorded one hit in their team’s win.

Atkinson started the game from the mound and went three and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits before being relieved by Kaiser.  After getting two batters out, surrendering two runs and hitting three others, she was replaced by Al. Love who finished things out.  Al. Love threw for two and two-thirds, giving up seven runs, three that were earned, while striking out two.

The McPherson softball team is back at it on April 9th as they travel to Hillsboro, Kansas to face the Tabor College Lady Blue Jays for a doubleheader set to start at 5:00 p.m. (CT)
