McPherson, Kan. – The 2013 campaign for head coach Susan Barton and the Lady Bulldogs volleyball squad kicks off against the Manhattan Christian College Crusaders on Tuesday, August 27th at 7:00 p.m. (CT)
This years' MC volleyball squad returns three starters but will have an entirely new back row. Returning varsity athletes include seniors Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.), Karis Janzen (Hillsboro, Kan.) and Emily Girard (Osborne, Kan.), juniors Phoebe Barton (Little River, Kan.) and Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.), and sophomores Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) and Sophie Simon (McPherson, Kan.).
Among the newcomers are transfers Maci Grimes (Andale, Kan.) and Jacelle Neill (Lemars, Iowa) along with freshmen Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) and Emily Warner (Wichita, Kan.). Moving up from the junior varsity ranks from a year ago is sophomore setter Ashley Frankenbery (Benton, Kan.).
Following a troubling 9-27 season last year, including 3-14 non-conference schedule, the 2013 Lady 'Dogs are hoping that a lighter schedule to get things started will jumpstart their season.
The Lady Crusaders are expected to put up a fight as they are coming off a NCCAA D-II National Tournament run from a year ago; they also went undefeated in the Midwest Christian College Conference.
The first tournament of the season will come later this week for Mac as they travel down to Oklahoma for the two-day Oklahoma City University tourney; the 'Dogs will face Mid-America Christian, Dallas Christian, and Bacone College.
