McPherson, Kan. – The young team on campus that is the women's soccer squad will get 2013 rolling down in Texas as they face University of Texas at Brownsville and Northwood University of Texas. The first match is set for 11:00 a.m. (CT) on August 31st while the contest vs. Northwood will take place on September 2nd, also at 11:00 a.m.
The women's soccer team will have a tough non-conference season this Saturday as University of Texas Brownsville is currently ranked ninth in the NAIA. Mac also faces #23 Baker University and (RV) USAO later in September.
Last season MC concluded the year with a four game winning streak to put them at 7-9-2 overall and 5-4 in conference, tying them for third place. Round one of the conference tournament was where the 'Dogs ended 2012 as Southwestern College triumphed 2-0.
Six return from that squad including senior Samantha Peterson and sophomores Kayla Burke and Amy Stockton 11 freshmen and one transfer make up the newbies for Mac; forwards Cydney Lewis and Colorado State transfer Jessica Dominguez along with midfielder Willie Stockton highlight the list of newcomers.
The KCAC women's soccer coaches picked McPherson fourth in their annual preseason poll.
A couple of non-conference home contests are next on the docket for the Lady Bulldogs once they return from the south. Briar Cliff University and Morningside College will both travel down from Iowa to take on McPherson on September 7th and 8th, respectively.
