Ottawa, Kan. – Despite getting outshot 32-4, the McPherson women's soccer team held off the Lady Braves and nearly came away with a draw. Unfortunately for Mac, OU scored in the late stages on a counter attack to secure a 1-0 victory.
Ottawa took 16 shots in each of the halves but MC's defense and goalie Tori Verdieck kept the Braves in check as they held OU to zero goals through the first 45 minutes. In the second, the offensive assault continued for Ottawa as they took another 16 shots; after eight rejections, the D finally broke and OU had their game winner in the 77th minute. Mac had a couple opportunities late but could not convert, losing 1-0.
Allie Hicks, Cydney Lewis, Gabriela Navarro, and Rebekah Gallegos-Romero each took a shot for the Bulldogs with all but one making it on frame.
Verdieck ended the game with eight saves in her 90 minutes between the pipes.
McPherson has back-to-back home games next week as they host the Friends University Falcons on the 15th at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and then the University of Saint Mary on the 18th at 11:30 a.m.
