McPherson, Kan. – It was a hard fought 90 minutes for the McPherson College women's soccer team on Wednesday as they lost 2-0 to a very talented Kansas Wesleyan University side. Mac moves to 3-7-1 this season and hold a 1-1 KCAC record.
McPherson's defense was in full force in the opening period as they withstood the bombardment of Kansas Wesleyan in the early goings. MC ended the first half without taking a shot but held the offense-heavy Coyotes to zero goals in the first 45. A save by Mac's goalie was rebounded by a KWU player to put the Lady 'Yotes on the board in the 55th minute. With nearly 20 minutes to play, Kansas Wesleyan scored again, this time on some quick passing up the sideline. McPherson had a couple of chances late in the match but could not convert leading to a 2-0 defeat.
The Lady 'Dogs put up a fight all the way throughout but were not able to find any openings in the Coyote defense. The team ended with just three shots taken from three different players.
Goalie Tori Verdieck had a very good game for Mac, making 13 saves in her 90 minutes between the pipes.
A 1:00 p.m. (CT) match against Ottawa University is next on the docket for MC as they travel to Ottawa, Kansas on October 11th.
