McPherson, Kan. – It was over in the first five minutes as MC basketball got ahead 10-0 and never looked back, finishing the game with a dominating 69-38 victory over the Terrible Swedes of Bethany College. Mac jumps up to a tie for sixth place in the KCAC at 6-11; they are 10-19 on the season.
MC scored the first 10 points and held a double-digit lead for most of the opening half as the Bulldog defense was forcing tough shots for Bethany; Mac's lead never reached the 20-point mark as it peaked at 19 points. The Lady Bulldogs took a 31-17 lead into the locker room.
It seemed as if everything was going in during the opening half for McPherson as they drained 13-of-22 from the floor; however, the team made just 2-of-8 from deep and 3-of-7 from the foul line. BC scored on a mere 6-of-28 and saw only 2-of-16 three balls fall; they did go a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. 23 of the Lady 'Dogs' points came in the paint.
In the second period, Mac got their lead to 20+ in five minutes and let it sag below just once; the squad pushed it to 30 for the final few as the Bulldogs coasted to a 69-38 triumph.
McPherson's field goal percentage dropped just a touch in the final 20 minutes as they converted on 54.2 percent from the floor, 13-of-24; they went 3-of-7 from downtown and 9-of-12 from the stripe. Bethany, scrambling to claw back in, saw a rough 5-of-28 field goals go down the hoop; 2-of-11 three pointers went in as did nine of their 10 free throws.
Mac closed out the night shooting in an outstanding 56.5 from the field, 26-of-46; they made 5-of-15 from downtown and 12-of-19 from the foul stripe. 41 rebounds were tallied by the 'Dogs compared to 38 of the Swedes. MC also netted 20 assists, 18 turnovers 11 steals and three blocks. A whopping 52 points of McPherson's 69 were tabbed inside the paint and 20 came off of turnovers.
Bailey Brown (Glen Elder, Kan.) continued her high-scoring rampage as she logged 19 on 7-of-8 shooting with 3-of-5 foul shots dropping; she also grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals. 15 points were scored by Aubrey Barton (Pratt, Kan.) who had six rebounds and two blocks as well. Cami Engelbert (Beloit, Kan.) ended the night with 10 points, making 5-of-6 field goals. On Senior Night, the four-year player Breahna Gillespie (Little River, Kan.) recorded eight rebounds, seven assists, six points, two steals, and a block.
One game is left on the regular season schedule for the Bulldogs; they travel to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas on February 22nd with tipoff set for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
